The availability of ”mineral” natural gas is at least 3 times more than crude oil. Proved reserves of gas, according to several sources, are about the same as crude oil and in the range of 2,000 PWh, while known resources of gas (including gas shale and acquifer hydrates) are in the range of 15,000 PWh compared to 5,000 PWh of oil (including oil sand and shale). These amounts are a fraction of the 8,000 PWh of proven coal reserves plus about 125,000 PWh of known coal resources.
